Biographical Text

Andy Mohan was born in June 1931 in Coothill in Cavan. He spent his childhood in Cavan where his family had a farm. As a young man he joined the seminary where he was training to become a priest. However, due to ill health he left the seminary before completing his training. He came to Dublin in the 1950’s where he began working for Bord na Gcon (Irish Greyhound Board). He continued working with the board for 33 years, until his retirement. Andy was a keen dancer; in fact he won a championship medal for dancing when he was a young man. He also enjoyed playing football and was even spotted by a talent scout from Manchester United.

Andy now has hung up his football boots and his dancing shoes and lives in a nursing home in Bray. He still enjoys music however, and can often be persuaded to join in on a singsong.
