Description

Theatre Royal, Hawkin's Street. The first Theatre Royal opened in 1821 but was destroyed by fire in 1880. A new Theatre Royal was built on the site and opened in 1897. This was demolished in 1930 and replaced by the third Theatre Royal in 1935. This was a 'Cine-Variety' type of theatre which boasted a 40 ft. stage depth and super large screen. This theatre closed in 1962 and was later demolished.
