Description

Findlater's Church. The Presbyterian church Parnell Square was endowed by Alexander Findlater, a Dublin merchant. It was built in the 1860s at a cost of £14,000. Interviewee Hugh Smullen recalls many happy childhood days playing near the church: "...you would turn right at Findlater’s Church and you’d head down Parnell Square, you know there and the railing is going and the kind of a hill down? Well we’d go down there on our crocs, you see, we’d call them crocs, and you’d scoot it and you’d go flying down that hill, now, there was no traffic then, you’ve got to imagine … and that used to give us endless pleasure …"
