In the following extract Betty Watson comments on the lack of educational opportunities available to her as a young woman growing up in Dublin inner city. The importance of education in preparing for life was a significant feature of the interview with Betty. Her life experience and in particular her own return to education in her adult life has taught her of the value of education in equipping people for life. In this extract she expresses her regret at what was denied to her as a young woman and she poignantly notes 'I could have been what I am now'.
